Carpenter Bees
Carpenter Bees are large black bees that look similar to a bumblebee and are very loud and intimidating. These bees will rarely sting, but will bore small, perfectly round holes into wood surfaces (decks, soffits, eaves, trim) and then bore destructive horizontal tunnels through the wood. After the holes are made, they will nest inside of them where they will lay eggs. Preventive treatment and nest elimination are available. These holes are also an attractant for woodpeckers, which further damage the wood structure.
